Health and Safety laws require safety management and procedures in the workplace, whether staff are working indoors or outdoors. The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 give information on what is expected from an employer and how employers and employees should keep the working environment safe at all times, especially when the general public may also be at risk.

The law states that companies should have relevant policies and documents in place which demonstrate how you manage safety in your organisation. This includes risk assessments and health and safety policies, even if you employ as few as five employees.

A risk assessment should cover all foreseeable risks and hazards and how these will be controlled. A company health and safety policy describes the organisation and arrangements for health and safety, including who is responsible for what areas of work and how this will all be reviewed.
